Name Servers
Computers that help to map domain names to their respective IP addresses

NASDAQ
Short for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation system, Most of the high-tech companies in the United states trade on NASDAQ, which has consequently become one of the most powerful engines driving the Silicon Valley economy.

Navigation
The process of finding your way around a web-site, The provision of a adequate navigation tools is one of the biggest challenges facing website developers, who must consider not just how to guide visitors from the Home Page of their site but also how to indicate their exact location within it.

Navigator
A browser produced by Netscape, Once the undisputed market leader, Navigator's innovation and technical excellence made it the browser of choice for millions of neophyte Internet users.

NC / Network Computer
A "trimmed down" version of a PC that has certain restrictions and is used only on a network or Internet, It generally does not have a local disk drive, floppy or hard disk. It generally boots from the server or NIC.

NCSA
The National Center For Supercomputing Applications, Based at University of Illinois , the NCSA is a research organization specializing in high-performance computer applications in many fields.

Nerd
A generally pejorative term for someone of above-average intelligence but who has poorly developed social skills and is sartorially challenged

Net
Net is an abbreviation for the term Internet which stands for Interconnected networks. When these letters appear at the end of an address they may indicate that the host computer is run by a network but is more often used interchangeably with .com

Nethead
An engineer or other individual with a strong belief in the power of intelligent, IP-based digital networks over the final networks run by telephone companies.

Netiquette
The conventions of politeness on USENET. Many relate to the niceties of posting messages in Newsgroups; for examples, advertising beef products in alt.food.vegan is a clear breach of netiquette.

Netizen
Derived from the term citizen, referring to a citizen of the Internet , or someone who uses networked resources. The term connotes civic responsibility and participation

Netscape®
A WWW Browser and the name of a company. The Netscape (tm) browser was originally based on the Mosaic program developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Netscape has grown in features rapidly and is widely recognized as the best and most popular web browser. Netscape corporation also produces web server software. Netscape provided major improvements in speed and interface over other browsers, and has also engendered debate by creating new elements for the HTML language used by Web pages -- but the Netscape extensions to HTML are not universally supported. The main author of Netscape, Mark Andreessen, was hired away from the NCSA by Jim Clark, and they founded a company called Mosaic Communications and soon changed the name to Netscape Communications Corporation

A Network Operating System developed by NOVELL.

Network
A collection of people or things, linked together to share information or resources.

Network Entity
A Network Entity is a set of Functional Entities which is mapped onto a single piece of equipment in all possible system implementations. A Network Entity is the atomic unit of implementation. There is a one-to-one relationship between Network Entities and Physical Entities.

Network Externalities
An economic term describing the effect that new members of a network have on the existing ones.

Network Management
Network management can be defined as a set of activities (e.g. network monitoring, gathering and analyzing the statistics, adjusting network configuration) performed in order to increase the network performance and availability

Network Solutions
A US-based organization which registers new top-level domains.

New Media
Forms of mass communications driven by the Internet and related technologies.

Newbie
A newcomer to the Inter, or, more specifically, to USENET and its Newsgroups. Newbies are widely reviled for their lack of netiquette and are discouraged from participating in some newsgroups.

Newsgroup
A discussion group on the USENET. Unlike chat rooms, newsgroups are not live; instead, questions and comments are posted to one of many Usenet servers and later redistributed around the rest of the network.

Newsreader
An application that allows using newsgroups

NFS / Network File System
Developed by Sun Microsystems to allow a computer to access files over a network as if they were on local disks; now public domain, a de facto Internet standard.

NIC
Network Interface Card - a part of the computer hardware responsible for connecting a particular machine to the local area network

NNTP / Network News Transfer Protocol
For a message to be posted to a newsgroup, it must conform to this protocol that interacts between news servers and newsreaders. The NNTP is basically the software foundation of a newsgroup server.

Node
A host computer on a network. A node may be as simple as a standalone PC connected to the Internet across a dial-up connection or as complex as a server delivering information to hundreds of machines.

NOS / Network Operating System
A software that (a) controls a network and its message traffic and queues. (b) controls access by multiple users to network resource such as files, and (c) provides for certain administrative functions, including security. This network operating system is most frequently used with LAN and WAN, but could also have application to larger network systems.

Novell
A software company, best known for its Netware Network Operating System.

NS / Name Server
Name Server specifies a host that will act as a domain name server for the specified domain. A computer on the Internet that tracks the relationship between IP addresses and domain names.

NT
Microsoft operating system first seen in 1993. It is a 32 bit operating system, well suited to a network environment where users share services. (see Windows NT)

NT / Windows 2000 Hosting
NT or Windows 2000 Hosting defines the services of housing, serving, and maintaining files for one or more Web sites on NT or Windows 2000 web server at high speed Internet connection
